About Maklin Bike Shop

Our Story

Maklin Bike Shop opened in October 2019 in Shafer, Minnesota near the Swedish Immigrant Paved Bike Path.  Owners Steve and Lynn Hamlin reside in North Branch, Minnesota with their two boys. Steve was part owner and general manager of a Bike, Ski and Run store in St. Croix Falls, WI for the past two years. After growing the bike business and spending a lot of hours working and running the store together, Steve and Lynn decided it was time to open their own store where they could put all their focus into bikes.

With a new business and store from a clean slate, we'll be bringing in more options for bikes, accessories and gear to serve all levels of riders, whether you are the neighborhood joy rider, fitness enthusiast, adventure cyclist or serious racer.  We love getting new people on bikes and helping them get fitted, just as much as building that ground up sweet custom ride.

Where does the name Maklin come from...?  Lynn's maiden name is Makela and Steve's last name is Hamlin.  A combination of the two and there you go!

Steve has a Mechanical Engineering degree from Michigan Tech and loves everything about Bikes....he loves riding bikes, working on bikes, talking about bikes, racing bikes and everything else about bikes. You can frequently find him commuting home on his bike at night or sneaking out in the morning for a gravel ride. Steve loves the challenge of racing as well, especially endurance mountain biking with races that include the Marji Gesick 100, Maah Daah Hey 100, Lutsen 99er, Wilderness 101, and many others. Steve has dabbled a bit in trail running with a 2nd place overall finish at the Wilderman Full Iron Distance Offroad Triathlon in Walhalla, ND in 2018.

Lynn has an Information Systems degree from Michigan Tech and runs our website, social media accounts, and the business office. When Lynn's not at the store or running the boys around for their activities, she enjoys getting out and taking an easy ride on her Trek Domane.

You will often find the boys hanging out at the shop and riding their bikes around the neighborhood and trail. They've picked up the passion for cycling and enjoy getting out to mountain bike and cyclocross races.

Stop by the store to chat about bikes, or take a spin on the Swedish Immigrant Regional Bike Path!

Enjoy the Ride!
